conquistador A group of Spanish soldiers, or Spanish conquerors of the Americas.
expedition An organized journey.
colony It is a settlement or area far from the country that rules it.
epidemic An outbreak of disease that spreads quickly and affects many people.
Why did some European rulers agree to be patrons for explorers? They could earn money from the riches and gain land that the explorers might find.
Europeans introduced crops such as.... wheat and grapes and animals such as horses to the Americas.
Europeans returned to Europe with... vegetables such as corn and potatoes.
How did the introduction of horses change the way that many American Indians lived? Horses made transportation quicker and easier. They could carry heavier loads and helped the American Indians hunt more easily.
Why do people explore? People explore to discover new places, resources, and people.
What were the 3 G’s, or 3 motives for explorers to sail west? God, Glory, and Gold.
