Acoustic nerve | cranial nerve that controls the sense of hearing and equilibrium and eventually leads to the cerebellum and medulla |
Auditory canal | 1-inch segment of tube that runs from external ear to the middle ear |
Auditory ossicles | set of three small bony structures in ear: malleus, incus, and stapes |
Eustachian tube | tubular structure within middle ear that runs to the nasopharynx (throat) |
Labyrinth | bony maze composed of the vestibule, cochlea, and semicircular canals of the inner ear |
Otic | pertaining to the ear |
Tympanic membrane | membranous skin that separates the external ear from the middle ear |
