Cornea | The transparent tissue covering the anterior portion of the eye. |
Miosis | Contraction of the pupil. |
Mydriasis | Dilation of the pupil. |
Ophthaimic | Pertaining to the eye. |
Rods | Photoreceptors that respond to dim ligh and are reponsible for black and white color (night vision). |
Acoustic nerve | The cranial nerve that controls the senses of hearing and equilibrium and eventually leads to the cerebellum and medulla. |
Auditory canal | A 1- inch segment of tube that runs from the external ear to the middle ear. |
Auditory ossicies | The set of three small bony structures in the ear: malleus, incus, and stapes. |
Eustachian tube | A tubular structure within the middle ear that runs to the nasopharynx (throat). |
Labyrinth | A bony maze composed of the vestibule,cochlea, and semicircular canals of the inner ear. |
Otic | Pertaining to the ear. |
Tympanic membrane | A membranous skin that separates the external ear from the middle ear. |
