Atlas | A book of maps |
Autobiography | A book about a real person, written by that person |
Bibliography | A list of formatted citations listing the sources used for research. |
Biography | A book about a real person, written by someone else. |
Call Number | A combination of numbers and letters used to show where a book is located in a library. Example: 323.1 WEX. |
Citation | Provides detailed information (author, title, publisher, etc.) on the sources used for research. Citations make up a bibliography. |
Database | A searchable online collection of articles and information from published sources. The information is fact-checked and reliable. |
Encyclopedia | A reference work that contains short entries of information about many different subjects. Broad, general information - a great starting place for research. |
Fiction | Written stories about people and events that aren’t real. |
Index | A list of topics, names, etc. in a book, including a page number where the information can be found. Found at the back of the book. |
Library Catalog | an online tool that helps you find books and other materials in a library. |
Monograph | A detailed literary work on a single, specific topic. |
Nonfiction | Writing about facts and real events. |
Periodical | Something published at regular intervals, such as newspapers, magazines, and scholarly/academic journals. |
Primary Source | Original material from the researched time period. Example: a letter written by George Washington. |
Reference | In a library, a Reference source is a general overview type of source, such as an encyclopedia. Reference is also the name of the section of the library where these sources are found. |
Table of Contents | A list of the chapters or parts of a book, in the order that they appear. Like an outline of information contained in the book, found in the beginning pages. |
