Nationalism | A strong feeling of pride and devotion to one's country. |
Monroe Doctrine | Foreign policy that states that American will protect and defend itself. |
Marshall Court | Allowed goods to flow freely between the states and helped the economy grow. |
American System | A system proposed by Henry Clay in which the federal government pays for internal improvements (e.g. roads). |
Internal Improvements | Improvements to roads, bridges, canals and other projects in the United States that are paid for by the federal government. |
Henry Clay | Proposed the American System. |
Andrew Jackson | New national hero during the War of 1812 and known as the "Common Man's" president. |
James Monroe | U.S. President that developed the foreign policy of the Monroe Doctrine. |
War of 1812 | War against the British that made the US feel stronger and more established as a nation. |
Second War of Independence | A war between the United States and Great Britain; better known as the War of 1812. |
Anthem | A song of devotion or loyalty to a nation. |
