ANEMIA | a deficiency of circulating red blood cells' a symptom of disease, not itself a disease |
AVITAMINOSIS | vitamin deficiency |
ELECTROLYTES | charged elements, called cations(which have a positive charge) and anions (which have a negative charge) |
HEMOGLOBIN | the iron-containing blood cell that carries oxygen to the tissues |
HYPERVITAMINOSIS | a condition caused by the presence of too many vitamins; more common with fat-soluble vitamins |
MOLECULAR BIOSYNTHESIS | the making of chemical compounds in a living organism |
INTRINSIC FACTOR | a naturally produced protein necessary for the absorption of vitamin B12 |
TRACE ELEMENTS | elements that are needed by the body in very small amounts |
WATER-SOLUBLE VITAMINS | vitamins that are soluble in water and are not readily stored by the body |
ENZYME | a protein that speeds up a reaction by reducing the amount of energy required to initiate the reaction |
