6.1 Whole Number Ops

Unit Review

TermDefinition
GCF (Greatest Common Factor) The largest factor that two or more numbers have in common. (GCF of 8&12 is 4) Use Downward division.
Lowest Common Multiple (LCM) is the smallest number that is a common MULTIPLE of two or more numbers ( LCM of 8&12 is 24) List the multiples.
Factor What we can multiply to get a product. Ex. 2x3=6, so 2 and 3 are factors of 6.
Multiple Multiples are what we get after multiplying the number by an integer. Ex. 2x4 = 8, so 8 is a multiple of 2.
Quotient Answer to a division problem.
Product Answer to a multiplication problem.
Area of a rectangle Area = Length times width or Area = base times height.
Perimeter of a rectangle Add up the 4 sides.
Multiplication Repeated addition Ex. 4 x 3 = 4 + 4+ 4 = 12
Area The size of a surface or the space inside a 2-dimensional object. Units are squared.
Division Repeated Subtraction or breaking into groups. Ex. 12/3 = 4
Division Algorithm "Does McDonalds Sell Cheese Burgers" Divide, Multiply, Subtract, Compare, Bring Down (Repeat)
