skill | The ability to do something well. |
decisional role | One of the three major roles that a manager assumes in the organization. In this role, managers are charged with the responsibility of making decisions on behalf of both the organization and the stakeholders with an interest in it. |
disseminator | An informational role in which managers pass privileged information directly to subordinates who might otherwise have no access to it. |
disturbance handler | A decisional role that depicts managers who must involuntarily react to conditions. Also known as crisis handler. |
executive managers | Generally, a team of individuals at the highest level of management of an organization. |
entrepreneur | A decisional role in which managers initiate change to improve their businesses, adapt to changing market conditions, and react to opportunities as they present themselves. |
figurehead | An interpersonal role that requires managers to perform some ceremonial duties. |
first-line management | The level of management directly managing nonmanagerial employees. |
informational role | One of the three major roles that a manager assumes in the organization. In this role, managers are required to gather, collate, analyze, store, and disseminate many kinds of information. |
interpersonal role | One of the three major roles that a manager assumes in the organization. In this role, managers are required to interact with a substantial number of people in the course of a workweek. |
leader | An interpersonal role that requires managers coach, support, and guide his/her subordinates. |
liaison | An interpersonal role in which managers establish and maintain contacts outside the vertical chain of command. |
monitor | An informational role in which managers constantly scan the environment for information, talk with liaison contacts and subordinates, and receive unsolicited information. |
middle management | The managers in an organization at a level just below that of senior executives. |
resource allocator | A decisional role in which managers make decisions about who gets what, how much, when, and why. |
spokesperson | An informational role in which managers send information to people outside of their organizations. |
