Unit 1 Geometry

Unit 1 Geometry Terms

TermDefinition
Straight angle an angle whose measure equals 180 degrees
Congruent Two angles with the same measure
Opposite rays two collinear rays with the same endpoint (always form a line)
Collinear Any two points that lie together on the same line
Coplanar Points and lines that lie in the same plane and are together on a line
Complementary Two angles that sum measures up to 90 degrees
Point Has no dimension and is usually represented by a do
Obtuse angle An angle that is between 90 and 180 degrees
Coplanar lines lines that intersect to form right angles (perpendicular lines)
Line extends in one dimension and is usually represented by a straight line with 2 arrowheads to indicate it extends without end in 2 directions.
Right angle an angle whose measure equals to 90 degrees
Vertical angles 2 angles that their sides form 2 pairs of opposite rays
Plane A flat surface that has 3 non-collinear points and is 2 dimensional
Acute angle an angle between 0-90 degrees
Angle formed by 2 rays with an endpoint
Postulate or Axiom an accepted state or fact
Supplementary 2 angles that the sum of their measures is 180 degrees
Linear pair 2 adjacent angles that noncommon sides are opposite rays
Segment the part of a line consisting of 2 endpoints and all the points in between them
Perpendicular bisector a line, segment or ray that is perpendicular to a segment at its midpoint
Transversal a line that intersects two coplanar lines at 2 distinct points
Adjacent 2 angles that share a common vertex and side, but have no common interior points
Segment bisector a line, segment, or ray that intersects a segment at its midpoint
Angle bisector a ray that divides an angle into 2 congruent angles
Theorem a rule that has been proven
Space the set of all points
Parallel lines coplanar lines that never intersect
Skew non-coplanar lines that never intersect
Midpoint a point that divides a segment into 2 congruent segments
Ray the part of a line consisting of 1 endpoint and all the points of the line on 1 side of the endpoint

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
