natural resources Materials found in nature that are used yliving things to meet their needs
renewable resources natural resources that can be replaced quickly
nonrenewable resources natural resources than can not be replaced quickly
conservation the preserving and protecting of a resource, often by using less
weathering the breaking down of rocks on earth's surfaces into smaller pieces
erosion the process of moving sediment from one place to another
deposition the process of dropping bits of rock and soil
sediment very small pieces of rock, sand, and silt
bedrock solid rock found under soil
humus The remains of decayed plants or animals (organic matieral) in soil
soil A mixture of water, air, tiny pieces of rock and humus (organic material)
soil horizon A layer of soil with differernt physical characteristics from the layer of soil above it and the layer of soil below it
soil profile A vertical, cross-section of soil that shows the various layers of soil
water retention The ability to "hold onto" water
loam A soil with roughly equal parts clay, silt, and sand.
