What caused the Whiskey Rebellion and what was George Washington's response? The challenge to the authority of federal government. Washington led over 12,000 militiamen to put down rebellion. Federal government would use force if necessary to enforce laws.
What is the significance/importance of the Whiskey Rebellion in U.S. history? It proves the power of the constitution.

Alien Act Gave the president the right to deport (force to leave the country) any non-citizen suspected of plotting against the government during either war or peace time. Geared towards foreigners (French refugees).
Alien Enemies Act Gave the government authority to arrest and deport citizens of foreign nations at war with the U.S.
Naturalization Act Extended period of time immigrants had to live in U.S. to apply for citizenship from 5-14 years.
Sedition Act (Sedition-to go against your own country) It would be a crime to write or speak critically about the president, members of congress, the federal government, or federal laws.
Which Act violates the Constitution? Why? Sedition Act: Against 1st amendment, especially Freedom of Speech, gathering, and protest
What was Jefferson and Madison's response to the Sedition Act violating the constitution? Jefferson wrote Kentucky Resolution Madison (anonymously, but everyone knew it was him) wrote Virginia Resolutions
Explain the concept of the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions: Wanted the states to nullify laws they didn't like, or laws that go against the constitution.
