Formal statement by convicted defendant as to whether there is any reason why judgement should be not be against him. Allocution
Particularly important ruling or decision that affects large segments of society/law, establishes important new legal principles, or changes established ones. Landmark/benchmark decision
An issues which a court is capable to decide; a question appropriate for judicial consideration Justiciable
A statutory claim created to ensure payment to contractors and suppliers on construction projects. Mechanic's lien
A motion filed by a party to a lawsuit which asks the court for an order or ruling limiting or preventing certain evidence from being presented by the other side at the trial of the case. Motion in limine

A defendant in a criminal case who is released from custody not by posting bond, but on his simple promise to appear in court as required. Own recognizance (OR)
Relative equality in status, amount, or value. Parity
