Sic | Thus, just as - added in the written record to indicate that what appears on the record actually was said, even thought it is obviously in error. |
Sine die | Without day - adjournment without a specified time to reconvene. |
Sine qua non | Without which, not - to indicate that without (something), (something else) would not be possible |
Situs | Place, location - particularly in determining jurisdiction, or referring to the location of a crime |
Sotto voce | Under the voice - in soft tones whispered, not intended to be overheard, as at a sidebar. |
Status quo ante | Status as it was earlier - a return to a previous situation or condition. |
Stare decisis | Let the decision stand |
Sua sponte | Of their own accord, by their own will |

Sub rosa | Under the rose - confidential, secret |
Subpoena | Under penalty - generally an order to appear in court, with which failure to comply may bring penalties |

Ultra vires | Beyond the power - an act of beyond the authority of a person or corporation. |
