Por or Para?

You use para to express: | Purpose (for the purpose of; in order to) For the benefit of (for a person) To or in the direction of when talking about a place By or for when referring to a specific point in time |
Examples of para: | Para bailar la bamba se necesita una poca de gracia.... (To dance the bamba you need a little grace.... Es para usted. (It's for you) Voy para Europa. (I'm going to Europe) Necesito la tarea para mañana. (I need the homework for tomorrow) |
You use por to express: | Movement along, through, around, by, for a place Time or duration of time that something happens Cause of an action Per Supporting or in favor of something The way a person travels Numerous expressions |
Examples of por: | Anduvimos por las calles de la ciudad. (We walked through the streets of the city.) Viajamos a España por dos semanas. (We are traveling to Spain for two weeks) Me caí por la lluvia. (I fell because of the rain) 95 por ciento (95%) |
