Tenses of verbs

TermDefinition
Present Tense Use when talking about NOW, current events, to explain what you think or like. Means 3 things example I speak, I do speak, I am speaking
AR verb stem plus o, as, a, amos, an
ER/IR verb stem plus o, es, e, emos, en
Past Preterite Tense Used to describe COMPLETED past actions.
AR verb stem plus accent e, aste, accent o, amos, aron
ER/IR verb stem plus accent i, iste, i accent o, imos, ieron
Past Imperfect Tense Use when talking about past habitual/continuous events like saying "I USED TO" in English
AR aba, abas, aba, accent abamos, accent aban
ER/IR accent ia, accent ias, accent ia, accent iamos, accent ian
Future Tense Similar to using the word "WILL" in Spanish
AR/ER/IR Infinitive of verb plus endings accent e, accent as, accent a, emos, accent an
Conditional/Past Future Tense equivalent to saying "WOULD" in English 1)as a condition example I WOULD go if you wanted me to 2)when referring to the future from a point in the past example She asked if I WOULD come back
AR/ER/IR use infinitive of verb plus endings accent ia, accent ias, accent ia, accent iamos, accent ian
Present Perfect/Past Participle Tense Use when saying you "HAVE DONE" something. Example I have spoken or I have eaten. Use conjugated verb Haber before verb stem with ending ado or ido
AR he hablado, has hablado, ha hablado, hemos hablado, han hablado
ER/IR he comido, has comido, ha comido, hemos comido, han comido
Present Progressive/Present Participle Tense equivalent to English "ING" words. Action happening now and continuing in the future. Use conjugated verb Estar before verb stem plus ending ando or iendo
AR estoy hablando, estas hablando, esta hablando, estamos hablando, estan hablando
ER/IR estoy comiendo, estas comiendo, esta comiendo, estamos comiendo, estan comiendo
