us constitution document that embodies the fundamental laws and principles by which the us is governed
popular sovereignty a doctrine in political theory that government is created by and subject to the will of the people.
representative republic a form of democracy in which people vote for representatives who then vote on policy initiatives;
anti federalist a person who opposed the adoption of the U.S. Constitution.
federalists a member or supporter of the Federalist Party.
elite democracy The theory posits that a small minority, consisting of members of the economic elite and policy-planning networks, holds the most power—and that this power is independent of democratic elections.
interest group A collection of people who share a common interest or attitude and seek to influence government for specific ends
initiative Procedure whereby a certain number of voters may, by petition, propose a law or constitutional amendment and have it submitted to the voters.
participatory democracy a model of democracy in which citizens have the power to decide directly on policy and politicians are responsible for implementing those policy decisions.
pluralist democracy describes a political system where there is more than one center of power.
referendum the principle or practice of submitting to popular vote
representative democracy government is elected by citizens
brutus I argued that federal power was bad and that the Constitution gives too much power to the federal government.
faction political party
federalists 10 a strong federal government can protect liberty because it guards against the dangers of control by a narrow interest
