Diacritics French has several different accent marks, also known as “diacritics”. They serve several different purposes in the language. Sometimes they affect pronunciation, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they can completely change the meaning of a word.

Typing French Accents in Windows Cédille (ç), type ' then c. Circonflexe (ê), type ^ (shift + 6) then e. Tréma (ö), type ” (shift + ') then o. To type French quotation marks « » use ctrl + alt + [ and ], respectively.
