What is a democracy? supreme political authority is in the hand of the people
Who rules is a democracy? the people rule
What is a direct democracy? all citizens meet to discuss government matters
What is Majority Rule? more than half the people have the power to make laws that all must obey
What is an indirect democracy? citizens vote for representatives that makes laws and govern on their behalf
What is another name for an indirect democracy? Republic
What is a dictatorship? power is held by one person or a small group of people
What are the 2 types of dictatorship? autocracy and oligarchy
What is an autocracy? a single person having absolute power
What is an oligarchy? a small group of people having absolute power

How do dictators stay in power? police or military force
What is monarchy? being ruled by a king or queen
What is an absolute monarch? king or queen having absolute power
What is constitutional monarchy? the power of the king or queen being limited by the country's constitution
What is theocracy? laws that are based on religion
What is a centralized government? all powers held by the government belong to a single central location
What is centralized government also called? Unitary government
What is federal government? the powers of government are divided between a national government and several state governments

What is a confederate government? an alliance of independent states (countries)

What is a presidential government? the president is elected by the people not congress
