Equivalent Signs

Rewriting Integer Operations with Equivalent Signs

5 + (-2) is equivalent to ... 5 - 2
7 - (+3) is equivalent to ... 7 - 4
There are two ways to think about the problem 6 - 1. Rewrite 6 - 1 in two ways using equivalent signs. 6 - (+1) 6 + (-1)
9 - (-4) is equivalent to... 9 + 4
8 - (-1) is equivalent to ... 8 + 1
Subtracting a negative is equivalent to ... adding a positive
3 + (-8) is equivalent to ... 3 - 8
10 + (-6) is equivalent to ... 10 - 6
12 - (-9) is equivalent to ... 12 + 9
5 - (-7) is equivalent to ... 5 + 7
