First | Freedom of Religion, Speech, Press, Assembly, and Petition |
Second | Right to keep and bear arms |
Third | Protects from soldiers quartering in your house |
Fourth | Protection against unreasonable Search and Seizure |
Fifth | The Right to Remain Silent/Double Jeopardy, right to due process |
Sixth | The right to a Speedy Trial by jury, representation by an attorney for an accused person |
Seventh | Right to a trial by jury in civil cases |
Eighth | protection against excessive bail and cruel or unusual punishment |
Ninth | Rights not included in Constitution go to the people |
Tenth | Powers not given to federal government go to people and States |
Eleventh | Prohibits citizens of one state or foreign country from suing another state. |
Twelfth | The separation of the president and vice president onto two different ballots |
Thirteenth | abolished slavery |
Fourteenth | Declares that all persons born in the U.S. are citizens and are guaranteed equal protection of the laws |
Fifteenth | States cannot deny citizens the right to vote because of race. |
Sixteenth | Allows the federal government to collect income tax |
Seventeenth | Established the direct election of senators (instead of being chosen by state legislatures) |
Eighteenth | Prohibited the manufacture, sale, and distribution of alcoholic beverages. (Repealed/no longer in effect) |
Nineteenth | Extended the right to vote to women in federal or state elections. |
Twentieth | Commencement of Terms; Sessions of Congress; Death or Disqualification of President-Elect |
Twentyfirst | Amendment which ended the Prohibition of alcohol in the US, repealing the 18th amendment |
Twentysecond | Limits the president to two terms or 10 years. |
Twentythird | Gives Washington DC electoral college votes as if it were a state (DC still has no representation in Congress) |
Twentyfourth | Abolishes poll taxes |
Twentyfifth | (1) Succession of VP if president dies or become incapable to do his job.(2) if there is no VP, president must appoint one, and congress must approve |
Twentysixth | Lowered the voting age from 21 to 18 |
Twentyseventh | Congressional pay raises are not begun until the next election |
