TermDefinition
Abdominal system includes the stomach, intestines, and internal organs such as the liver, pancreas, and spleen.
Atrophy shrinking of the muscle when it is not being used
Musculoskeletal system includes the bones, joints, and muscles
Gait pattern of repetitive limb motions when a dog walks, trots, runs and gallops. used to determine any signs of lameness or pain
Urogenital system includes the kidneys, urinary bladder, external genitals, mammary glands, and rectal area
Wheel barrow technique evaluates animals with questionable nervous system signs using a technique which slightly lifts up the animals hind leg off the ground and pushing the body forward.
Nervous system evaluated throughout the entire PE. Areas to note are the response of pupil reflexes, the gait, as well as other body reflexes, such as limbs, paws and digits
Knee jerk reaction reflex test function that can easily be evaluated including the joint reflexes, which can be assed using the reflex hammer.
Hydration Status evaluated over the neck and shoulder area of the skin, observation of the eye sockets, gum moistness.
Integumentary system includes the skin should be evaluated for signs of alopecia, dandruff, or flaky skin, dryness, excessive oil, matting, redness, sores, or signs of parasites.

arrhythmia abnormal heart beat
murmur abnormal sounds often heard as swishing sounds
auscultation listening to the heart, chest, and lungs for any abnormal sounds
Dyspnea difficulty breathing, chest movement and abnormal sounds.
Thoracic Cavity the thorax or chest area
Dilate open wide
constrict close
pupil reflexes how the eye reacts to a light source
oral cavity includes the gums, mouth, teeth, tongue, and throat
oral exam examining the mouth area should include examining the teeth by lifting the lip, noting any signs of tartar on teeth, stains, odor, or broken teeth.
Observation inspection of an animal at a distance to see what it looks like, acts like, or how it moves naturally.
Triage short general assesment of an animal to determine how quickly the animal needs a vet's attention.
Chief complaint the main reason why the patient is in for and also is what needs to be addressed with owner early.
Diagnosis identification of cause of illness or other clinical sign by examination
Prognosis is the forecast of the likely course of a disease or condition. made by recorded by vet only
Signalment is the approximate or real age, sex, wether or not pet is neutered, breed and name
Patient history record observations not interpretations, have client explain what they observed.
PE observation of each body system to determine abnormal. detects early signs of illness before they become serious health issues
rectal exam evaluation of signs of diarrhea, size of anal glands, odor from the anal glands or rectum, and any masses
Vax history type of vax , problem list and dates
Rales abnormal sounds like wheezing or musical notes
Crackles abnormal sounds like cellophane paper
Ethics well-founded standards of right and wrong that prescribe what humans ought to do, usually in terms of rights, obligations, benefits to society, fairness, or specific virtues
Ethical pertaining to or dealing with morals or the principles of morality; pertaining to right and wrong in conduct.
