What do ad regulation entities do and what are they? They mandates include regulating advertising and other marketing activities. Some are the Better Business Bureau, the American Association, Audit Bureau of Circulations, Federal Trade Commisioner, and the American Association of Ad Agencies.
What do watchdog orginizations do in advertising? An advertising watchdog is a company that monitors the advertising industry for questionable marketing methods and practices. The goal of an advertising watchdog is to ensure that all types of advertisements are truthful and abide by the law.
What are three watch dog orginizations? Commercial Alert BBB National Consumers League
When was the printing press created and what did it do? 1440 and it made it possible to print ads that could be hung up or passed out.
What did George Rowell do? Created the first ad trade magazine "Printers Ink" in 1888.
What's a product endorsement? A celebrity testimony, popular is movies.
What was the creative revolution? Emphasis on creativity over straight salesmanship.
Describe a viral ad. An ad that has spontaneous success online, marketers have developed strategies to encourage an ad's viral potential. It focuses on creativity not hard selling.
What was the Pure Food and Drug Law (1906)? Required info labels to be placed on products, it however did not resolve false advertising.
What did the Federal Trade Commission (1914) do? Became responsible for regulating false ad claims.
What was the Advertising Substation Program (1971)? It forced ads to provide evidence for the claims in their ads.
What are the four P's of marketing? Product, place, price, and promotion. (AD. and PR falls under promotion)
What are the ad campaign phases? Research, strategy, creative, media buying, and measurment.
What is propaganda? Organized spreading of info to assist or weaken a cause.
Who is Edward Bernays/what did he do? He has been called the "founder of PR" for his work during WW1 promoting the sale of war bonds.
What is "love mark" or "loyalty beyond reason"? When consumers feel loyal to a brand in the same way they do to a family or friends.
Who was P.T. Barnum? He had the mentality of "no such thing as bad publicity". He had the circus and did stunts, media tours, press agentry, and all sorts of crazy things to get some attention.
What is formulate vs conveying the message? Formulate: Surveys, focus groups, and social media analytics. Convey: Press releases, video releases, public service announcements, and online options.
What is influencer marketing? Influencer marketing is a form of social media marketing involving endorsements and product placement from influencers, people and organizations who have a purported expert level of knowledge or social influence in their field.
