coefficient | a number multiplied by a variable in an algebraic expression; in the equation y=mx+b it is represented by the variable 'm.' |
equation | a statement that two expressions are equivalent |
inequality | a mathematical sentence that shows the relationship between quantities that are not equivalent. |
variable | a symbol or letter used to represent a quantity that can change; in the equation y = mx+b it is represented by the variable 'x.' |
inverse operation | the operation needed to "undo" the operations in an equation |
population | the entire collection of people, items, or events that are being studied |
inference | a conclusion made by interpreting data |
random sample | a sample in which each member of the population has an equal chance of being selected |
biased | a disproportionate weight in favor of or against an idea or thing, usually in a way that is closed-minded, prejudicial, or unfair. |
ACC- slope | also referred to as the "steepness" of a line, can be found by finding the difference of two points, comparing the rise to the run |
ACC- y-intercept | the point at which a linear equation crosses the y-axis |
ACC- slope intercept form | a linear equation that includes the slope and the y-intercept |
ACC- linear equation | an equation that can be represented as a straight line on a graph |
ACC- origin | the point where your x- axis and y-axis cross |
