Parallelism | a state of being parallel or of corresponding in some way. Using similar things to emphasize similar ideas. Used to create better flow |
Anaphora | repetition of word or phase at the beginning of a successive clause. Used to emphasis or deliver an artistic affect. |
Synecdoche | literary device where a part of something is subjected for the whole. Used to emphasis certain important parts by subjecting it for the whole. |
Litotes | deliberate understatement that uses negative words to mean something positive, Used to avoid making an affirmative claim. |
Metonymy | figure of speech, an object or idea referring to something that is closely related to it. Used to let single verbs or phases be more powerful to create a visual representation. |
Paradox | seeming absurd or contradicting of itself. Proposition or statement that when explained is well formed/true. Used to illustrate humor, makes people think critically. |
Euphemism | substitution of a mild, indirect or vague expression for ones thoughts to be offensive or blunt. Used to mellow out words that come off as harsh. |
Chiasmus | Part of sentence or phrase, second part is a rephrasal of the first. Used to put emphasis on certain parts. |
Anadiphsis | Repetition of the last word or a preceding clause or sentence. Used to beautify verbs through rhythm and sometimes to give phrase a natural sound. |
Asyndeton | A omission or absence of conjunction done intentionally. Used to create an immediate impact on readers done with rhythm in writing. |
