Who made the Articles of Confederation and when did they do it? The Continental Congress made it and in 1781.
What is the Articles of Confederation and why is it there? It is the first plan of government for the USA and it's there to give thr states unified government.
What are the Pros of having the Articles of Confederation? Created a Legsilative Branch. Gave Congress power to make laws. Gave Congress power to establish a military. Gave Congress power to decleare war.
What are the Cons of having the Articles of Confederation? No executive branch. no judicial branch. no unified currency. no power to tax. a unanimous (100%) vote was needed to fix the articles.
Why did the Articles fail? Created a weak central (national) government gave states too much power. the 13 states were not unified... acted as independent countires
What is the Preamble? It is the intro staement of the US constitution and it states the goals and purpose of the US government.
What does insure domestic tranquility mean? To keep peace within the US.
What does promote general welfare mean? Support the happiness and wellbeing of people in the US.
What does secure the blessings of liberty mean? Guarantee that the US will always be free.
What are the purposes of the US constitution? It establishes the structure of the US government and protects individual rights and freedom.
What is the first Articles branch, role, and made up of? It is the legislative branch, it makes laws for the US, and it is made up of Congress (House and Senate).
What is the second Articles branch, role, and made up of? It is the Executive branch, it enforces laws for the US, and it is made up of the President, vice President and 15 cabinet departments.
What is the third Articles branch, role, and made up of? It is the Judicial branch, it interpret and apply the laws for the US, and it is made up of the federal court system.
What is the fourth Article? Identifies federalism- the divison of power between national and state government.
What is the fifth Article? Describes the two-step process to amend (change) the US constitution.
What is the first step in the amendment process? Proposed by 2/3 vote in congress.
What is the second step in the amendment process? Ratified by 3/4 of the states.
Why do we not have many adopte amendments and how many do we have to date? The amendment process is very complex. To date, only 27 amendments have been added to the constitution.
What is the Bill of Rights? First 10 amendments of the US Constitution. Protect and guarantee individual rights and freedoms .
What is the third amendment? It prohibits the government from housing soldiers in your home .
What is the ninth amendment? It people have other rights that are not listed in the Constitution.
What is the tenth amendment? It powers not listed in the Constitution are reserved/given to the states
Freedom of Religion means what? Guarantees separation of church and state. The government can’t force you to choose or practice a religion.
Freedom of Assembly means what? The government can’t stop you from coming together for religious, social or political purposes.
Freedom of Press means what? The government can’t control the media (newspapers, TV, magazines, internet). The government can’t tell you what you can or can not view
Freedom of Petition means what? You have the right to let the government know how you feel.
Freedom of Speech means what? The government can’t stop you from expressing yourself
You can not claim your right to free speech in situations involving? Slander- speaking a lie about someone or something. Libel- printing a lie about someone or something.
