Project Management
Term | Definition |
---|---|
projects | a temporary endeavor with a specified start and end date. It exists to develop a unique product, service, or result that may become a part of the organization’s ongoing operations |
operations | the ongoing, daily activities of an organization that produce revenue and expense. They continue over an indefinite period of time |
product | virtually every product and service that you use on a daily basis started as a project |
business scenario | an imagined or projected sequence of events, especially any of several detailed plans or possibilities |
business strategy | consists of the activities, methods, and tactics that will be employed to meet the business's goals |
program | a group of related projects |
portfolio | a group of related programs that support a long-term company goal or objective |
charter | defines the project and authorizes the resources, roles, responsibilities, authorities, and scope for the project |
business case | The project justification is a statement explaining the business need for the project. This is sometimes referred to as the business case |
project life cycle phases | defining, planning, executing, closing |
phase 1 - defining | Determine the project’s sponsor and the project’s manager - Create a project charter |
phase 2 - planning | Technology Business process Staffing Training Testing Communications Budget constraints Integration of the project with operations and other projects |
phase 3 - executing | overseeing and managing all necessary work and assignments by members of the project team that are required over the life of the project |
phase 4 - closing | occurs when the project is completed to the customers’ satisfaction, the project deliverables have been successfully launched and the resulting project efforts are complete. This includes the launch and review and transfer of lessons learned. |
