What is open source software? | Open source software is not licensed Users have access to the source code. Normally free of charge Users can modify and distribute the software. Support provided by the community. May not be fully tested. |
What is proprietary software? | Users cannot modify the software. Copyright protected. Usually paid for. Licensed per user or per computer. Support provided by developers. Users do not have access to the source code. Fully tested and supported by developers. |
What is the PURPOSE of the Data Protection Act/GDPR? | Protects personal data should be: Processed for the purpose clearly stated. Relevant and not excessive. Accurate and up-to-date. Kept only for as long as necessary. Secure. Held in countries only agreed by the ICO. |
Data Protection Act - what are the rights of individuals? | Right to access personal data held. Right to have personal data held corrected if inaccurate. Right to refuse for your personal data to be shared |
What does the Computer Misuse Act 1990 make illegal? | Unauthorised access/hacking is illegal because of the Computer Misuse act. It is illegal to: Make any unauthorised access to data; with the intent to commit further offences; with the intent to modify data, e.g. viruses. |
What is the Copyright Design and Patents Act 1988 designed to prevent? | It is illegal to: Copy, modify or distribute licensed software : music, video or other intellectual property without permission of the author. |
