Executive Order 9066 This order authorized the forced removal of all persons deemed a threat to national security from the West Coast to "relocation centers" further inland – resulting in the incarceration of Japanese Americans.
Internment Camps A prison camp for the confinement of prisoners of war or deemed a threat to national security,
Hiroshima & Nagasaki The Japanese cities that the U.S. used the atomic bombs forcing Japan to surrender during WWII.
United Nations (UN) An association of independent countries that agreed to work together to prevent and end wars.
Holocaust The systematic murder of six million Jewish people by the Nazi regime and their allies during World War II.
Universal declaration of Human Rights Adopted by the UN 1948 outlining the basic rights and freedoms to which all people are entitled no matter the country they live in.
Axis Powers Alliance between Germany, Italy, Japan.
Propaganda Information used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view.
War Production Board An executive branch office in charge of mobilizing the U.S. economy for World War II.
Allied Powers Alliance between Great Britain, United States, Soviet Union.
War Refugee Board It was was responsible for devising and carrying out programs for the rescue and relief of victims of Nazi persecution.
Fort Ontario Refugee Shelter The refugee camp in Oswego NY that held 982 refugees that considered “guests” of the US. They lived behind barbed wire and promised to return to Europe after the war.
Nuremberg Trials Court proceedings held by the Allies against representatives of Nazi Germany, for plotting and carrying out invasions of other countries, and war crimes during World War II.
