Equissage Muscles and their functions

MASSETER Flexes the temporomandibular joint
SPLENIUS extends, flexes and elevates the neck
STERNOCEPHALICUS opens the jaw
BRACHIOCEPHALICUS extends the shoulder, flexes the neck when the leg is planted
TRAPEZIUS elevates the shoulder, aids in the rotation of the scapula upward, forward, and backward.
RHOMBOID elevates the shoulder, aids in the rotation of the scapula upward, forward, and backward. Deep to the trapezius
DELTOID Extends and flexes the shoulder joint
SUPRASPINATUS Extends and stabilizes the shoulder joint
INFRASPINATuS Extends, flexes, and moves the forelimb laterally.
TRICEP LATERAL HEAD Extends and flexes the shoulder joint, aids in lateral movement of the forelimb.
TRICEP LONG HEAD Flexes the elbow
BICEP Extends the forelimb
DESCENDING PECTORAL Extends the forelimb, moves the forelimb inward
ASCENDING PECTORAL Connects the limb and the trunk, moves the limb inward and backward.
EXTENSOR CARPI RADIALIS Supports the knee, prevents over extension
SERRATUS VENTRALIS THORACIC Supports the trunk, rotates the scapula down and back.
LATTISIMUS DORSI Moves the forelimb back , lateral bending of the spine
LONGISSIMUS DORSI Lateral bending and extension of the spine
RECTUS ABDOMINUS Supports the back and aids in lateral bending
OBLIQUE Flexes the trunk, aids in expiration, aids in bringing the hind leg forward
GLUTEUS Forward impulsion, hind end action
SEMITENDINOSUS Extends the hindlimb
SEMIMEMBRANOSUS Extends the hindlimb, rotates the limb inward
BICEP FEMORIS Extends the hindlimb
TENSOR FASCIA LATAE Extends the stifle and flexes the hip
LONG DIGITAL EXTENSOR Supports the hock, flexes the hind leg.
