AI Artificial Intelligence
Anime A style of Japanese film and television animation
Console A panel or unit accommodating a set of controls for electronic or mechanical equipment
Cut Scene A scene shown to the player when they reach a particular point in the game
ESA The Enthusiast System Architecture (ESA) specification is a royalty-free protocol for two-way communication of PC components
ESRB Rating The Entertainment Software Rating Board is a self-regulatory organization that assigns age and content ratings to consumer video games
First Person Shooter A type of video game whose gameplay involves shooting enemies and other targets and in which a player views the action as though through the eyes of the character they are controlling
FPS (Frames Per Second) Frame rate is the frequency at which consecutive images are captured or displayed
Game Screens The way the screen looks when playing a video game
Genre A category of artistic composition, as in music or literature, characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject matter
Gone Gold This indicates that the main development on the game is finished; the game is working and ready to move to the manufacturing stage
Grind Grinding refers to the playing time spent doing repetitive tasks within a game to unlock a particular game item or to build the experience needed to progress smoothly through the game
Janky Defects or low-quality processes that lead to poor response times for software, or that impede user operations
Level A level is any space available to the player during the course of completion of an objective
Loot Loot is the collection of items picked up by the player character that increase their power or level up their abilities, such as currency, spells, equipment and weapons
MMO A massively multiplayer online game is an online video game with a large number of players, often hundreds or thousands, on the same server.
Pixels A word invented from picture element is the basic unit of programmable color on a computer display or in a computer image
Platform A game platform refers to the specific combination of electronic or computer hardware which, in conjunction with software, allows a videogame to operate
Quest A quest, or mission, is a task in video games that a player-controlled character, party, or group of characters may complete in order to gain a reward
Realm Each realm is a complete version of the game world, but each realm has its own players belonging to that particular realm
RPG A video game genre where the player controls the actions of a character immersed in some well-defined world, usually involving some form of character development by way of recording statistics
Sprites A sprite is a two-dimensional bitmap that is integrated into a larger scene, most often in a 2D video game
Top-down The game is viewed looking down, as if the "camera" were hovering over the game itself
