Chapter 8: Alternative Imaging Technology

QuestionAnswer
A mode amplitude mode
B mode britghness mode
artifacts something seen on a ultrasound image that anatomically does not exist
anechoic the image is black, such as in fluids(no echoes)
Attenuation reduction of the intensity of an x-ray beam as it traverses matter.
Attenuationis caused by ` absorption, reflection, scattering, refraction
Echoic (echogenic) creates echoes
Endoscopy- use of an illuminated optical instrument to visualize the interior of the body and its organs.
Hypercheic- structure is lighter than the surrounding tissue or organ(lots of echoes)
Hypoecheic -the image is darker than the surrounding tissue(less of echoes)
Isoechic- the image is the same echogenicity as compared to another organ
MRI stands for Magnetic rensoance image
MRI uses radio waves, a powerful magnet, and a computer to make a series of detailed pictures of areas inside the body.
M mode motion mode
CT stands for omputed tomography
CT used to obtain detailed internal images of the body.
Transducer- device that produces sound waves that bounce off body tissues and make echoes
fluoroscopy- diagnosing (finding out the cause of) a health problem such as heart or intestinal disease
reverbration occurs when an ultrasound pulse gets "trapped" between two strong parallel reflectors.
ultrasonography noninvasive procedure based on changes in sound waves pf frequency that cannot be heard but respond to changes in tissues composition
Sound waves are charterized by wavelengths and frequencies
velocity= wavelength*frequency
Echogenicity- quality of being able to send back an echo and then showing as a light area in an ultrasound scan
Nuclear sctingraphy -is used to diagnose, stage, and monitor disease
Which best describes the appearance of a hyperechoic lesion on a ultrasound- brighter than surrounding tissue
What si the advantage of using 7.5 MHz transducer over a 5 Mhz transducer -it penetrates more deeply
Acoustic impendacne is- ability of tissue to resist or impede sound waves
Which fo the following occurs when the ultrasound beam interacts with a large curvilinear interface such as the diaphragm and liver border -acosutic shadowing
A tech is preparing to do a ultrasound exam of a dogs abdomen, crearting images in the trasnverse plane. Which fo the following radiographic images will this plane represent -ventrodorsal
Which description most accutarlty fits the appearance of normal adrenal glands on ultrasound- hypoechoic
If a tech is preparing to take a sagittal ultrasound image, which way shoul the probe be oriented- cranial to caudal
Which organ is the most difficult to image and correlate sonographic appearance with the presence or absence of disease pancreas
Which contributes to obtaining a clear sonographic image of the liver in a deep chested dog- probe angled crainaly at xipoid process
Identify the correct order of the 5 wall layers in the small intestine- muscosal surface, mucosa, submucosa, muscularis serosa
In which suspected condition is CT preferred to MRI- vertebral fracture
Identify the msot accurate desportion of a solid lesion on ultrasound- no internal echoes
An endoscopic study performed by the rigid scope is which of the following- rhinoscopy
The endoscope is immersed at the end of the day with which oif the following dilute solution- cidex
Which artifact occurs where theis is minimal attenuation of the beam as it passes through a fluid filled structure- reverberation
Echogencity is defined as- sound transmitted back to probe
Which organ is most associated with acoustic shadow and reverbration artifact- prostate
Which substance creates the greatest barrier to sound transmission blood
What is the best term for lass of intensity of the ultrasound beam as it travels through tissue- absoption
Lung metastasis is the best visualized using CT
