What is a feed forward response When the body responds to a change that has not happended, but is likely to happen- ex: when the stomach starts to become active, and starts to produce digestive juices right before a meal.
Intracellular Operates at the cell level- regulates the functions within the cell
Intrinsic Operates at the tissue and organ levels- use chemical signals
Extrinsic Operates at the system and organism leves- usually involve nervous and endocrine regulations.
What are two types of chemical bonds between atoms Ionic bonds- formed by the transfer of electrons from one atom to another Covalent bonds-they are formed when atoms share electrons
What are the three most inportant types of subatomic particles, and how are they different 1.Proton- has a positive charge located in the nucleus 2. Neutron- has no charge located in the nucleus 3. Electron- has a negative charge on the OUTSIDE of the nucleus
What substance will breka up in a solution to form charged particles/ions Electrolytes
What are the three basic types of chemical reactions 1. Synthesis: A+B+= AB 2. Decomposition: AB= A+B+Energy 3. Exchange: AB+CD= AD+CB
Anabolism a chemical reaction that join simple molecules together to form more complex biomolecules
Catabolism a chemical reaction that not olny breaks down relatively complex compounds into simpler ones, but also releases energy from them
