Vocabulary

TermDefinition
grant Money given to college students who NEED it most. the student will not have to pay it back.
check register A neat paper that helps you keep track of your spending.
credit card A plastic card used to purchase goods. You can pay LATER when you receive a monthly bill at the end of the month.
deposit To put money IN the bank.
withdrawal To take money OUT of the bank; to spend.
credit report Includes a person's name, address, social security number, and credit history and income. Compiled by agencies to help lenders decide whether or not to lend you money.
work study program Gives college students a convenient job on campus so they can earn money to pay for college tuition.
debit card A plastic card used to purchase goods and services. You have to enter a PIN and the money is taken out of your bank account immediately.
income The money earned from a job.
credit score A number calculated from your credit report. Paying your bills on time brings this number up; late payments bring it down.
checking account You set this up at a bank so you can write checks or use a debit card to withdraw money.
scholarships Money awarded to college students based on achievement (sports, grades).
credit history Includes information about how well you manage your money.
career Your occupation; your life's work (teacher, artist, mechanic).
