Term | Definition |
---|---|
Professional Dress | Appropriate dress for the job you are have or wish to get, such as what you would wear to an interview. Conservative, neutral, well fitting. |
Professional Greeting | greeting an interviewer or manager with good posture, firm hand shake, eye contact and first and last name stated clearly and slowly. |
Digital Citizenship | How we contribute to or behave online or using digital media and social networking or other websites. |
Professional documents | Paperwork: Resume', Reference sheet, Application, Thank You letter and Cover Letter. Could include a portfolio. |
Resume | A written summary of education, work or volunteer experience, community service, talents or skills, without errors, in reverse chronological order. Usually created to apply for a job. 1 page. |
Reference Sheet | A written document that lists 3-5 adults (unrelated to you) who you know well that will provide a potential employer with information about your skills, character and work habits. |
Cover Letter | A letter in business format that explaining why a resume is being sent or dropped off. |
Thank You Letter | A business formatted letter sent to an interviewer after the interview to thank them for the time and opportunity to interview |
Job Application | A form (could be paper or electronic) that is complete for a potential employer to apply for a job. |
Recommendation Letter | A letter written to a potential employer or college to encourage acceptance of an applicant based on extraordinary skills and character. |
Eye Contact | Looking at an interviewer or other person in the eyes when speaking to them. |
Posture | Standing or sitting (or even walking) with a straight back and shoulders; a look of confidence. Not slouching. |
Inflection | Speaking clearly and with emphasis and enthusiasm. Pronouncing all sounds in words. |
Confidence | Being self assured and having a belief in your own worth and ability |
Networking | Leveraging everyone that you know to help you get a job or reach career goals, knowing people. |
Salary | Amount of money earned monthly or annually. Multiply Hourly pay X 2000 to calculate "annual income" |
Professional Reference | An unrelated adult who is willing to tell about your skills or character to encourage a potential employer to hire you. |
Young Professional | An adolescent who chooses to dress, act and communicate in a way that develops their skills to be successful in business and society. |
