ECE1-00 Orientation to Early Childhood Education I

Early Childhood Education Pathway | A three year series of classes to learn about children and careers related to the care and education of young children. |
Professionalism (4) | The choice to dress, act, and communicate in a way that shows maturity and good judgement. |
Job Interview Fair (1) | A project that allows students to create a resume' and other paperwork and practice skills that can help them be successful in a job interview |
Employability Skills (1) | Skills and traits that help people get and keep jobs in the real world. |
FCCLA (2) | Family Career and Community Leaders of America. A STUDENT led organization that allows students to develop skills and travel. |
Newborn (6) | A baby from Birth to 1 month old |
Infant (6) | A baby from 1 month old to 1 year old |
Toddler (7) | A baby from the age of about 1 - 2 years old |
Preschooler (8) | A child from 3-5 years old |
School Aged Child (9) | A child from 6-12 years old |
Human Development Theory (5) | Many ideas/theories about how and why children develop in all "areas". |
Community Service (2) | Opportunities to do something for the good of others without any expectation of payment. |

Learning Environment (11) | All of the space, people, furniture, etc. that make up a place intended for teaching and learning. Includes temperature, lighting, and sounds. |
Brain Lobes (6) | Areas of the brain that perform certain tasks, ie. the frontal lobe, parietal lobe, occipital lobe, and temporal lobe |
Leadership Skills (2) | The ability to influence and effectively persuade peers for the good of all. |
NAEYC (4) | The National Association for the Education of Young Children. The organization that provides guidance for ethical behavior and professional development for early childhood teachers. |
Early Childhood Career Paths (3) | Many successful careers relate to working with or understanding children, so knowledge of children is key. (Most of you will become parents one day too!) |
Positive Guidance (10) | Telling a child what you WANT them to do, rather than what you want them NOT to do. i.e.: talk quietly, pet the dog gently, walk slowly. The goal: self control for the child. |
Lesson Plan (12) | A written document that includes the Standard, Learning Objective, List of supplies, and instructions for teaching a particular topic to students. |
Classroom Diversity (13) | Using inclusive curriculum, practices and interactions to support variations of language, family type and culture in the classroom. |
