TermDefinition
Professionalism (III1) The ability to communicate (spoken/written), behave and dress in a way that promotes and demonstrates respect, leadership and good manners
Employability Skills (III 1/P1) Appropriate and respectful personal and written communication and interpersonal interactions. i.e.: integrity, honesty, accountability, punctuality, time management, and respect for diversity
Child Directed Play (III 2) Play that is chosen and initiated by children based their own preferences and abilities. i.e: constructive, language logic, cooperative, etc.
Communication Development (III 3) Providing appropriate support for children's development and learning of verbal, nonverbal skills as well as reading and writing skills.
Education Trends (III 5) Theories such as attachment, educational choices and cultures, and parenting styles and their impact on education.
Family Diversity (III 6) Various types of and cultures in families and how they impact learning.
Effects of Stress on Children (III 7) How internal and external conditions can cause temporary or chronic stress and the impact of this on children's growth , development and learning.
Technology for Learning (III 8) What type and quantity of technology is a positive factor in children's growth , development and learning
Brain Development in children (III 9) How children's brains are affected from birth to adulthood my many factors and the lasting outcomes.
Confidentiality (P2) The professional obligation of teachers to protect the privacy of children, their families as well as their colleagues and workplace.
Professional Organizations (Such as NAEYC, GAEYC, PAGE) (P3) Membership organizations that share best practices, offer insurance and provide collective bargaining to teachers and students of education.
Philosophy of Education (P5) A basic belief system about what is needed for learning to happen that drives the practices of a teacher.
Safety in the classroom (P6) Basic procedures and practices used in schools to ensure the safe learning of every student
Behavior Management (P9) Appropriate actions and reactions that guide and motivate individuals to behave appropriately in a given setting
Classroom Management (P8) the process by which teachers and schools create and maintain appropriate behavior of students in classroom settings.
Assessment Methods (P9) Various ways of determining the knowledge or skill levels in learners.
Learning Exceptionalities (P10) Neurologically-based processing problems that can interfere with learning basic skills such as reading, writing as well as contribute to other difficulties for student.
Accommodations (P10) Changes or adjustments made by a teacher or school that help support or allow success for a student with learning exceptionalities.
Individual Education Plan (P10) A document that is customized to a student and details testing done, results found, diagnosis of learning difficulty as well as accommodations and a future plan to help enable success for a student..
Portfolio (P11) A collection of documents and work samples that evidence the ability and skill of a student or professional.
Internship (P12) An opportunity to work (usually unpaid) in a business that allows learning and development of skills
Reflection (P12) Taking time to think about an experience and even write down a summary in order to improve learning.
