Spyware | Software that enables a user to obtain covert information about another's computer activities |
Dumpster diving | Dumpster diving is investigating a person or businesses trash to find information to attack a computer network |
firewall | A firewall is a legal barrier preventing the transference of inside information and the performance of financial transactions between commercial and investment banks |
forgery | Forgery is the act of improving one's financial position by creating a fake legal document or altering an existing one |
fraud | financial fraud occurs when someone takes money or other assets from you through deception or criminal activity |
identity theft | Identity theft is the compromise of your existing financial accounts or the creation of new financial accounts by an unwanted third party acting in your name |
peer to peer (p2p) | peer to peer lending enables individuals to obtain loans directly from other individuals, cutting out the financial institution as the middleman |
phishing | phishing is a method of identity theft that relies on individuals unwillingly volunteering personal details or information that can then be used for nefarious purposes |
shoulder surfing | shoulder surfing is a criminal practice where thieves steal your personal data by spying over your shoulder as you use a laptop, ATM, public kiosk or other electronic devices in public |
snail mail | snail mail is a slang term for the regular postal service with the implication that it is a lot slower then email |
scams | scams is the illegal sale or purported sale of financial instruments |
anti virus software | software that is created specifically to help detect, prevent and remove malware |
better business bureau | The better business bureau is a private organization that provides the public with information on businesses and charities it also handles consumer complaints about firms |
federal trade commission | the federal trade commission is a federal agency that enforces antitrust laws and protects consumers |
equifax | equifax is a credit card bureau, equifax tracks the credit history of borrowers in order to generate credit reports and credit scores |
transunion | transunion is a credit bureau, it tracks the credit history of borrowers in order to generate credit reports and credit scores |
experian | experian indicates how much longer any given account will remain on the credit history it also lists the monthly balance history for each month |
internal revenue service | the internal revenue service (IRS) is a U.S. government agency responsible for the collection of taxes and enforcement of tax laws |
solicitations | a consent solicitations is a process by which a security issuer proposes changes to the material terms of the security agreement |
spam | spam is any unsolicited email that is intended to promote your business, product, or service |
