Concurrent Powers | Powers shared between the national and state governments as stated by the U.S. Constitution |

Court of Common Pleas | Hears both criminal and civil cases, such as divorce, juveniles who break the law, and disagreements involving $8,000 or more; have original jurisdiction |
Commonwealth Court | Hears appeals of cases involving PA or the state’s departments or local governments (ex: land use, elections, labor practices); have appellate jurisdiction |
Superior Court | Hears criminal and civil appeals cases from the PA Common Pleas Courts as well as appeals involving families and children; have appellate jurisdiction |
PA Supreme Court | Can declare acts or regulations as unconstitutional; can have original or appellate jurisdiction |
Atlantic Coastal Plain Region | Fertile, flat section in SE PA; home to Philadelphia and an important shipping center |
Erie Lowland Region | Fertile and touristy area that borders Lake Erie; home to Erie (an important port for goods) |
Allegheny Plateau Region | Area that contains more than half of PA and Allegheny Mtns; home to Pittsburgh, which makes it great for transportation of goods; steel industry developed because of coal and iron resources |
Piedmont Region | Area located in south-central PA (including Hanover) that’s full of gently rolling hills and fertile soil; also has the longest growing seasons in PA because of its mild climate |
Ridge & Valley Region | Fertile and touristy area that contains the Appalachian and Pocono Mtns and consists of hills, valleys, lakes, and rivers; area is full of coal |
