encomienda system Spanish slaver labor system using labor of non-Christian people - Spanish enslaves Natives that weren't converted
conquistadors Spanish colonizers/conquerors in search of resources or riches - aimed to open trade routes and gather high quality items to give back to the mother country
nation-state territory where one group living there share common history - native americans could technically be in nation-states
diseases negative affect by pathogens or sickness - Spanish brought over diseases due to things that native americans didn't have, so they didn't develop natural "immunity" causes great dying
luxury items from Americas included smoking tobacco and drinking chocolate
military technology from Spain horses, metal armors and tools, guns
