Chapter 11 Legal Defenses

At the time of a crime the defendant was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and they did not know what they were doing. Intoxication
The law recognizes the right of a person to defend themselves using “reasonable” force themselves Self Defense
Evidence that the defendant was somewhere else at the time the crime was committed Alibi
One of the best defenses that can be used. Example would be taking another's luggage or coat on accident. No Criminal Intent was Involved
When a person commits a crime as a result of coercion or a threat of immediate danger to life or personal safety Duress
When a person is compelled to react to a situation that is unavoidable in order to protect life. Necessity
Defendant claims they were induced or persuaded to commit a crime by law enforcement officer(s) Entrapment
A person is allowed to protect their property using non-deadly force unless their state has this. Castle Doctrine
