Spanish Quiz 15

Spanish quiz covering direct object nouns/pronouns

TermDefinition
Direct objects answer "what" or "whom" in relation to the verb true; ex: Pedro dobla las toallas (pedro folds the towels) he folds what? the towels. towels = direct object.
When direct object nouns refer to a person, add "a" before the DO. a+ el contracts to "al" true; ex: Entiendo a Carlos (I understand Carlos.) Amanda seca al perro (Amanda dries off the dog.)
The personal A is only used for people, NOT inanimate objects or animals. true
the word quién(es) refers to people, so use the a personal when quién(es) is used as a direct object ex: ¿A quién vas a ayudar? (who are you going to help?)
direct object pronouns replace direct object nouns; they refer to people, animals, or things already mentioned true
place the direct object pronoun before the conjugated verb form (after replacing the direct object with it!!) ex: no, no la barre ("la" is the DO pronoun; barre is the conjugated verb.)
present participle = ing ending true
With compound verb forms (a conjugated verb and an infinitive or present participle), a direct object pronoun may be placed before the conjugated verb or be attached to the infinitive or present participle true; ex: Sí, lo voy a ver mañana. / Sí, voy a verlo mañana (I am going to see him tomorrow.)
me me
te you (familiar, singular)
lo you (formal, singular) him, it (masculine)
la you (formal, singular), her, it (feminine)
nos us
os you (familiar plural, spain)
los you all (formal and familiar, plural), them (masculine)
las you (formal and familiar plural), them (feminine)
the gender of the DO pronoun is based on the direct object gender and plurality ex: huevos is plural masculine; therefore you would use "los" with it.
you keep the person doing the action, the conjugated verb, and the direct object pronoun in the sentence. true
