Language | A set of rules for producing (encoding) and comprehending (decoding) messages. |
Speech | A dynamic process of producing sounds for the purpose of communication. |
Semantics | Refers to the meaning of words. |
Phonology | Refers to a set of rules for how sounds form syllables and words. |
Syntax | describes how words can combine together to form meaningful utterances. |
Communication Disorder(s) | Any breakdown in the elements and/or processes of communication. |
Speech Language Pathology (SLP) | Health Care Field that specializes in the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of communication disorders, |
Expressive Language Assessment | Refers to the SLP assessment of ones ability to encode information using language. |
Receptive Language Assessment | Refers to the SLP assessment of ones ability to understand and decode a message. |
Speech Articulation | SLP Assessment that Refers to how sounds for speech are made. |
Speech Fluency | SLP Assessment that refers to the flow of speech. |
Phonation | Refers to the process of producing sound for speech (voice). |
Voice Resonance | Refers to how the oral and nasal cavities are used to shape speech. |
