What Is The RCVS? -Statutory regulator for veterinary surgeons. -Stands for royal college of veterinary surgeons.
Under What Act Is It Illegal For Anyone To Call Themselves, Or Practice As A Vet Without Being On The UK Register? Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966.
What Does Schedule 3 Of The Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 Allow Veterinary Nurses To Do? -Allows veterinary surgeons to delegate a RVN or SVN under their direction. -Giving any medical treatment or carrying out minor surgery, not involving entry into a body cavity can be delegated. A SVN must be supervised by a vet or RVN.
How Does The RCVS Regulate Veterinary Nursing? -Through the veterinary nurses council. -8 elected veterinary nurses, 4 veterinary surgeons and 4 lay members.
What Roles Does The RCVS Have? -To hold and maintain the register of veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses. -Education. -CPD. -Disciplinary systems.
What Is Fitness To Practice? -Minimum standards of behaviour for RVNs, SVNs and VNs. -Ensures protection of animal welfare and the public. -Ensures proper standard of conduct and compliance with relevant legislation. -Ensures public confidence in the profession (reputation).
