1. Where was the Inca civilization located/developed? The Inca civilization developed in the Andes Mountains of South America. The Inca first settled in the Valley of Cuzco, in modern Peru. A kingdom was then built in this area by the 1200''s AD.
2. What type of environment did the Inca live in? The Inca lived in a difficult environment and dealt with harsh physical conditions, such as warm weather, earthquakes, traveling long distances, to communicate with trade. The region was also difficult for farming.
3. What was Machu Picchu? Machu Picchu was a "city in the sky" that the Inca were able to build.
4. What was the Inca government like? The Inca had a highly organized system to govern their empire. In many ways, a group called ayllu, created the first welfare state in that the government also took care of people who needed help, such as the old and ill.
5. What was the most important demand that the Inca demanded? List some examples. The most important demand was for all adult workers to spend some days each year working for the state. Some examples are working on a state farm, helping to build state roads, or working on state buildings. This payment of labor was known as mita.
6. Describe the public works of the Inca civilization? The Inca built a very complex network of trade roads. The roads linked all parts of the empire. The Inca also built government buildings in the same style.
7. Who was the most important of all the Inca gods? The most important of the Incan gods were the creator god and the sun god, known as Intl.
8. What occurred during the early 1500s in the Inca civilization? The Inca Empire reached the height of its power under the rule of Huayna Capac. When he died, a civil war broke out between his two sons.
9. What happened when the Spanish arrived? When the Spanish arrived at the Inca civilization, they took advantage of Inca's weakness to divide and conquer the empire through their civil war.
10. What did Pizarro use to take over the Inca civilization? Pizarro used many technologies, such as armor, use of horses, as well as the use of gunpowder to overwhelm the Inca immensely.
