What is homeostasis? A balanced state that all body systems need for body to survive and function correctly
What are the 4 major organic substance groups? carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids and related molecules
What are the four principle types of tissue? epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissues
What is osmosis pressure? pressure that prevents the movement of water by osmosis from pure water into the solution
What are the two phases of mitosis? phase one: the numbers of chromosomes is halved but the chromatid pairs remain together phase two: the chromatids finally split apart
What are the functions of epithelial tissue? protection, sensory function, absorption, excretion
What are the five cell layers? Stratum basale- deepest layer Stratum spinosum Stratum granulosum Stratum lucidum Stratum corneum
What are the functions of the bone to support, protect, create movement, store minerals, and hematopoiesis
Define isotonic contraction is a contraction in which the tone or tension within a muscle remains the same as the length of the muscle changes
Define tonic contraction a continual, partial contraction in a muscle organ.
