Where do most Russians live? WESTERN CITIES (EUROPE) The Russian population is concentrated in western cities. (European side of Russia)
Why do Russians live in the western cities? The CLIMATE is better/easier to live there. The east has permafrost & is bitterly cold.

WHICH COUNTRY IS BEING DESCRIBED? Extremely cold in winter Most of the population lives in the Western part of the country Rich in natural resources, but the climate makes it difficult to get resources RUSSIA
What is true about Russia's climate? the colder the climate, the lower the population. the warmer the climate, the higher the population
Why is it more difficult for Russia to take advantage of its natural resources than countries such as Germany or the United Kingdom? Much of Russia's OIL and mineral resources are located in the cold climates of Siberia, far from developed areas.
How does the Gulf Stream affect Germany's natural resources? the Gulf Stream has a warming influence, which enables Germany to be a major agricultural producer.
The UK has large urban areas throughout England, Wales, & Northern Ireland. Russia has major cities are concentrated in the southern & western parts of Russia. Why is there a difference in how population is distributed between both countries? The UK is a small island & the climate is more uniform (the same), whereas Russia is HUGE & the climate in Russia is more extreme to the north.
Why does Russia rely on railroads? Russia's shipping ports lead to the Arctic and are FROZEN during most of the year.
Which country is on 2 continents? RUSSIA
What is the GULF STREAM? The Gulf Stream is a WARM OCEAN CURRENT. It takes moisture to UK & Germany.
What is the benefit (good) of the GULF STREAM? The GULF STREAM makes it possible for the UK to ship year round.

Which peninsula are Portugal & Spain located on? IBERIAN PENINSULA
Which country is affected by the UK's air pollution? Germany; ACID RAIN

What are the effects of the UK's air pollution? lung issues, death, creation of ACID RAIN

What is Germany's environmental issue? ACID Rain
What causes Germany's acid rain? Air pollution mixes with precipitation in the air; SO2 NO2
What are the effects of Germany's acid rain? destroys trees/plants/animal habitat, erodes statues & buildings
What is the solution for Germany's acid rain? Clean air act, use alternative energy sources
What was Chernobyl, Ukraine's environmental issue? Nuclear Power Plant exploded
What caused the Chernobyl nuclear disaster? Lack of training of the engineers
What were the effects of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster? cancer, death
What is the Solution for the Chernobyl nuclear disaster? There is NO Solution. Once nuclear energy is created, it cannot be destroyed. They Ukrainians put a concrete "sarcophagus" over the nuclear disaster area.
