Gov't Terms

These terms are from the "Important Terms to Know" about the gov't

TermDefinition
Politics Activities associated w/ the gov't, especially the debate of conflict among individuals to achieve power.
Citizenship Legal status between an individual and a nation or state that entails specific legal rights + duties.
Liberal Usually Democrat, leans left.
Independent Don't not identify as being apart of either major political party.
Judicial Branch Branch of gov't that decides if laws are carried out fairly (constitutional).
Legislative Branch Branch of gov't that makes the laws.
Executive Branch Branch of gov't that carries out laws.
Bias Prejudice in favor of or against something or someone based on a personal opinion.
Political Spectrum The range of a person's views on gov't.
Democracy A system of gov't by the whole population, typically through elected representatives.
Government A group of people who control & make decisions for a country, state, etc.
Conservative Usually Republican, leans right.
Checks & Balances A system that allows the gov't to ensure no one branch has more power than the other.
Federalism Division + sharing of power between the national and state governments.
Right A power held by the general public as a result of a constitution, regulation, or law.
