Editorial and Digital Terms

TermDefinitionUse Case
Submission The file that is submitted to MLR for review and approval. Submission file requirements vary based on client-requirements. This is why Editorial may ask for things that seem weird for a submission file. Example: Submission file for a video for Amgen is a PPT storyboard vs a Word-based digital storyboard
Fact checking The process of checking content against the source material, typically journal articles, government websites, textbooks. Anything that has content with data.
Lower thirds The set of graphics and text that are animated on screen with the speaker's title/credentials, usually on the bottom left of the screen. Done during design & video editing. For all creative elements, have conversations early with the client to determine look and feel and be sure it aligns with what was budgeted.
Layout (website) A full website design including images and design that includes the major pages of a website. Used to plan our user experience and "test" the site before programming it. Done after wireframe, apply look and feel to further develop site and get client buy-in prior to programming.
3D animation A process in which images are developed in a software that digitally simulates a real-world 3D (X,Y,Z axis) environment. Time and resource intensive, long renders, edits and the overall working files are often large and complicated.
Wireframe A blueprint or framework for a website - usually has placeholders for images, helps to map out content and flow between pages prior to adding in design and visual elements. Typically done in B&W, after site map to plan individual pages.
MP4 The most common file type for a rendered compressed video, stores video and audio information. This is the typical deliverable for a video project, usually horizontal. If other formats/layouts are needed, try to determine early in the process and notify DCS (for example, if client mentions social media, ask about platforms and speak to DCS).
Annotating The process of literally writing down the location in the source file that supports content (related to fact checking, but is NOT fact checking). Anything that has content with data. We have to annotate no matter what, even if MLR is not required in order to perform proper QC functions for fact checking. Clients who require MLR have very specific annotating styles we must follow
3D animation A process in which images are developed in a software that digitally simulates a real-world 3D (X,Y,Z axis) environment. Time and resource intensive, long renders, edits and the overall working files are often large and complicated.
User experience The way that a user interacts and experiences a product or website. Requires understanding of the audience, their values, abilities, needs, and limitations. There are best practices for optimizing user experience. Should be considered in the wireframe/layout phase and again in the demo/beta site phase. Note: user experience should be considered for all media we create, although this specifically is relating to website creation.
Drivers Emails or social media campaigns that encourage use of the site and "drive" users to the site, often via a link or QR code. Beta rollout and testing happens prior to launching live site.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
