Unit Three Extra Credit Vocabulary Practice

Cubed | a base raised to the power of three |
Cube Root | the number that produces a given number when multiplied by itself three times; the inverse of cubing a number |
Decimal Expansion | the process of turning a whole number, fraction or mixed number into a decimal |
Exponent | the number that indicates how many times the base in a power is multiplied |
Exponential Notation | a shorthand way of writing repeated multiplication using a base and an exponent |
Index | in the radical , which represents the nth root of x, n is the index. In the radical , the index is understood to be 2. |
Irrational number | a number that cannot be expressed as a ratio of two integers or as a repeating or terminating decimal |
Natural Numbers | the numbers that are used for counting |
Squared | a base raised to the power of two |
Square Root | the number that produces a given number when multiplied by itself; the inverse of squaring a number |
Radical | The symbol used to denote a root |
Radicand | the expression under a radical sign |
Rational Number | a number that can be written in the form where a and b are integers and b ≠ 0. |
Real Number | a rational or irrational number. Every point on the number line represents a real number. |
Repeating Decimal | a decimal in which one or more digits repeat infinitely |
Scientific Notation | a method of writing very large or very small numbers by using powers of 10 |
Terminating Decimal | a decimal number that ends or terminates |
