What is a democracy? A 3rd form of government. It means "goverment of the People" A System in which the power is shared by all the people.
What is citizenship? being a member of a state. including their rights, responsibilities, and privileges
What are the rights of the citizens? •To vote and to hold elected office •To say what you think in speech or in writing •To practice your own religion •To have a fair trial •To be protected while in other countries
What are the responsibilities of citizens? •working toward the common good •influencing the government •voting •participating in election campaigns •hold government office •serving the community
what is civics and why is it important for us to know? study of the rights and duties of the citizens
How does the 1st Amendment not apply to all speech? (ie antisemism and etc) You can't threaten the president or safety of gov. officials.
What are civil services? the administrative service of government
Give some examples of civil services? teachers, cops, fire fighters, lawyers, paramedics, swat team FBI
Demography The study of the size, growth, and distribution of human populations
diversity difference
Constitution A written plan of government
1st amendment Freedom of Religion, Speech, Press, Assembly, and Petition
2nd amendment Right to keep and bear arms
5th amendment The Right to Remain Silent/Double Jeopardy, right to due process
What is meant by equal respect? Respecting everyone equally no matter the race, religion, ethnicity etc
Why are some immigrants sometimes willing to risk their lives to come to the USA? War, famine, natural disasters, these are all factors that make people migrate to America
